IDEA Receives $7,000 Grant From SD Community Foundation

The South Dakota Community Foundation has announced that Indigenous Diabetes Education Allinace has been awarded $7,000 to assist in continuing a diabetes talking circle program in Native American schools on the Pine Ridge Indian reservation. The grant was presented through the South Dakota Community Foundation's statewide grant program.

The Indigenous Diabetes Education Alliance (IDEA) mission is to assist diabetic Native American youth through education and nutritional lifestyle changes. The number of Native American children being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes is on the rise and it is IDEA's mission to help combat this potentially life threatening disease through culturally relevant presentations. IDEA Director, Susan Ricci, was on hand to receive the grant award.
