IDEA Holds First Fundraising Auction at Crazy Horse Memorial

The Indigenous Diabetes Education Alliance raised $7,300 during a special fundraising auction at Crazy Horse Memorial on Saturday.. Aug. 15. IDEA Director, Susan Ricci, says she plans to make this an annual event. “We had a wonderful turnout and a lot of support from the people up at Crazy Horse and from so many of our local Native artists.”
The event was hosted by KNBN NewsCenter One’s Bob Riggio and featured a special drum group performance by the Badhorse Singers. Nearly 50 items were available for live and silent auction including original works by Don Montileaux, Del Iron Cloud and Thurman Horse. Other auction items included grass fed buffalo meat, Native American beadwork, star quilts, Pendleton blankets, pottery, jewelry, a guided turkey hunt, Tim Cox framed cowboy print and much more. There was also a raffle drawing for a Ted Nugent autographed guitar.
The funds raised at the auction will assist the IDEA program with a new project. "We have been hoping to produce an education video, narrated by Native American children for other Native American children, on the benefits of healthy eating, exercise and obesity prevention,” said Ricci. “We can reach more children in more schools through this type of media. This was the jump start we needed”.
